BETTER by CAREY HEYWOOD

SYNOPSIS:

Aubrey is embarking on a bucket list trip around the world, the last wish of her Aunt Ally. It was supposed to be the trip Ally would taken when she got better. Now it's just a chance for Aubrey to say goodbye.

Adam escapes in his solo trips overseas, working just enough to fund the next one. When the opportunity to circle the globe falls in his lap, he can't refuse. The only catch is he won't be traveling alone this time.

Unable to hide from each other, Adam's overprotective nature thwarts
Aubrey's desire to find her own way. Can they move past initial assumptions to find something better?

My thoughts after reading...

When Carey said I may need tissues while reading this through... boy, she wasn't kidding---at.all... Yeah sure, it was a warning but I thought I'd toughen up myself and try not to be such a girl about it. I mean, after all its just a story right? Yeah, well think again... 🙈

I was kind of bracing myself... Half-expecting that the heart-wrenching stuff was written somewhere in the middle... And sure enough, I was wrong...again. I had only been easing through a couple of pages but I already found myself reaching out for the Kleenex to dry my tear-soaked face. I even paused and contemplated on whether or not to go on with the book. But of course, I chose to pull on my big-girl knickers and sucked it all in. I'm just thankful I didn't ugly-cry so much... otherwise I'll be finding myself having to explain why I look like someone with a peanut allergy who deliberately just ate a pack of peanuts... Anyway....

Better is a story about a girl who lost someone very dear to her... She finds herself traveling around the world, trying to honor her loved-one's bucket-list while subtly finding herself embarking on a journey to self-discovery and understanding life better.

Life as we know it, is full of surprises... And that saying about when God closes a door and He opens a window?? Turns out He opened several windows for Aubrey.... and then there's Adam... (sigh) 😍

Nobody should lose people they love...its the worst fucking kind of heartbreak in the world... and I know this for a fact. Some people in our lives are just irreplaceable.

I've been a fan of the author eversince I read HIM. She never fails to get the readers to really feel the story and understand each character in the book, sans the very lengthy, unnecessary bits.

To all the fans of FALLING INTO YOU by JASINDA WILDER, FALLING FOR HADIE by KOMAL KANT, WHEN YOU'RE READY by  JL BERG and WHEN IT RAINS by LISA DE JONG, this is definitely the book to read next.
