SECOND RATE CHANCES by Holly Stephens

SYNOPSIS:

Sam wakes up in the hospital expecting to find his girlfriend by his bedside. Instead, he finds a bleached-blond diva, claiming to be his fiancĂ©e, hovering over him. When he learns that he's just woken up from a coma and has lost the last three years of his life, any semblance of stability he thought he had falls down around him. All he wants – all he needs – is Lil.

After countless visits with her shrink and too many sleepless nights waiting for the one man she loves to walk back through the door, Lil wants nothing more than to separate herself from the life she used to have. But the moment Sam smiles at her, Lil knows it's going to take more than self-restraint to stay away.

Second-Rate Chances is about a young man fighting to regain his memory, and the one thing in his life that felt real. A modern-day Samson and Delilah, it's a look at what it means to love and be loved, and to fight though it seems hopeless.

My thoughts after reading...

Stories about second chances always run away with my heart. How often do we get a second shot at true love??

I love the story! This was truly an unexpected surprise, really.

Sam and Lil were college sweethearts. Really in love,  really inseparable. They were each other's half...Up until a tragedy happened which left them both broken, and eventually lead them to drift away from each other. Lil became angry and pessimistic with the world while Sam, became a selfish prick and emersed himself at work, leaving Lil to deal with the predicament all by herself.

The story started a couple of years after, when Sam slipped and banged his head on the concrete walkway while on his way to work, leaving him with a temporary case of amnesia.

He woke up forgetting his present high-life as a department head and future CEO of a gaming development firm, forgetting about his rich and gorgeous fiancee' and forgetting just about everything about his life after him and Lil physically separated... And in order for him to regain his memory, the doctor suggested that it would really help him if he gradually walks through his old life, and Lil is just the person to help him do it. Lil was definitely a masochist by agreeing to help Sam. Her shrink kinda suggested that by helping Sam it might also help her get the closure she needs and finally heal.

I tell you, as I read through the story I got angry with Sam. He alienated himself from all his friends when he climbed up the corporate ladder and he acted very much the opposite of who he was. And I'm just glad in the end, he realized the error of his ways.

The lesson I learned in this story is that, whats meant to be will always find its way---no matter how long it took to happen; no matter what or who comes in between. What is fated, will definitely happen...

Honestly, I feel like the end of the story was a bit hanging...Oh hell yeah! Who am I kidding?! I surely wanted more! I would've wanted to read about them finally getting married and raising a family...

To the fans of Work of Art by Monica Alexander, When You're Ready by J.L. Berg, If Forever Comes by A.L. Jackson and Present Perfect by Alison Bailey...this is the book to read next. I guarantee, you'll love it as much as I do.
