SYNOPSIS:
Welcome to the South - where the tea is sweet and the accents are sweeter. This Southern way of life is all Charlie has ever known. It’s not until she loses the only person who pushed her to break free of the Southern Belle mold that she starts living the life she needs and not the life her parents forced on her.
Jhett has lived on the edge for as long as he could remember - constantly teetering back and forth between being a rock star and living a normal life. His rebellious and sometimes arrogant attitude is known to get him into trouble, especially with the girls who hang on his every move.
Charlie never thought that a trip to pack up her brother’s apartment would leave her feeling even more unsettled about the grainy details of her brother’s death. Her quest for information leads her straight to his old hangout and into arms of Jhett, who suspiciously knows more about her situation than he ever should.
Only a few questions remain - Can you trust someone based on their word alone? And if you make a promise, how far will you go to keep it?
MY THOUGHTS AFTER READING...
Promise Me This is the story about Charlotte "Charlie" Jennings, coming to terms with the loss of her twin brother, Cameron.
The Jennings Twins had a strict and snotty upbringing, where outside appearances seems to be more important above everything else. Their parents...or more like their controlling mother, already have their entire life mapped-out---but Cameron wouldn't have any of it. He decided to live his life the way he wanted to.
Of the twins, Cameron was always the adventurous one... He would always convince Charlie to run away with him, and be free. But Charlie is cautious and apprehensive about the whole idea, and so she decided to stay and get a college degree, while Cameron chose to forgo college and moved all the way to San Diego, leaving Charlie in Tennessee... Although Cameron's leaving made her real sad, she knew her brother was happier.
But one fateful night, Charlie's world was turned upside down when she learned Cameron died in a car accident.
She was tasked by her mother, to pack up all of Cam's belongings that were in his apartment. Eventhough she was still in a state of shock and denial, she didn't have a choice but follow as told.
While packing, she saw a folded napkin from a club, which was actually a note to Cameron from a girl. The note intrigued her so much since her twin never once mentioned about a girlfriend when she visited him a couple of months ago... So after contemplating, she decides to check said club just to get more depth.
In the club she was immediately drawn to the band playing on stage---okay...so more specifically drawn to the guitarist on stage.
Turns out, said guitarist was Cam's bestfriend, Jhett Hudson---and brother of the girl who wrote the note on the napkin...
From their talks and for the memory of Cam, Charlie decides to stay in San Diego for the summer... She wanted to feel nearer to Cam and to finally let go of her inhibitions, in honor of her twin. And thats where the story of Charlie and Jhett began...
I don't even know where to start... this book just got me so bad from the very beginning, I was already tearing-up just by reading a couple of pages.
Though I never lost a sibling, I did lose loved-ones before...thats probably why I almost crazy-ugly-cried myself... The emotions conjured up by this book is so raw, that I even came to a point of deciding not to continue reading it anymore because I didn't wanna feel...it was too much... The loss, the blame, the regrets... these were feelings that really happens in life... So yeah, it was heart-wrenching... but it was just too good a read to pass. And so I collected myself and forged on to finish it.
And eventhough I cried on most parts, I'm also inspired by it...by Cameron's boldness and by Jhett's & Charlie's love story.
Promise Me This is a story that teaches us to not only do what makes us happy but to live life without regrets and follow your heart.
I cant wait to read the next book...
