SHINE NOT BURN by Elle Casey

SYNOPSIS:

IT HAPPENED IN VEGAS.

I can't be held responsible. Things that happen there are supposed to stay there, right? Right? Yeeeah. Not so much.

Andie's just days away from tying the knot, but there's just ooooone little glitch. Apparently, she's already married. Or someone with her name is married to a guy out in Oregon of all places, and the courthouse won't issue her a marriage license until it's all cleared up. Tripping her way through cow pies and country songs to meet up with a man who gets around places on horseback is her very last idea of how to have a good time, but if she's going to get married, make partner at the firm, and have two point five kids before she's thirty-five, she needs to get to the bottom of this snafu and fix it quick ... before her fiancΓ© finds out and everything she's been working toward goes up in flames.

My thoughts after reading...

I'm glad I picked-up this book to read now over the others... The story kinda' reminded me of that movie Accidental Husband, the one with Uma Thurman, Jeffrey Dean-Morgan and Colin Firth. Though in the movie the marriage was deliberately encoded into the computer system by a kid hacker in favor for Jeffrey Dean-Morgan's character, in retribution on Uma's character for causing him & his fiancee' to break-up after a live radio advice on relationships in general... Anyway...

I loved the story! It wasn't what I expected, really. In this story it seemed like the female protagonist, Andrea "Andie" Marks is the one who's reluctant to go with the flow and follow her heart. She has a checklist of qualities she needed to mentally peruse when dating a guy, she needed to follow her life-plan----if something doesn't fit, she discards it and moves to the next... Yep, kinda mechanical... I mean its not entirely a horrible idea to have a life-plan or a mental checklist on things you want but it shouldn't be so consuming to a point where it sucks the life out of you. And it is what happened to Andie... Of course, she is who she is, she can't help . She did that to protect herself... She was physically, emotionally, verbally abused as a child, and being kinda "mechanical" is the only coping mechanism she knows...πŸ˜”

And now onto the sexy cowboy... Like I said, this story isn't what I expected. Gavin "Mack" Mackenzie isn't your typical male lead... Yes, he was described as a crossover between a rugged cowboy and GQ model, which by the way is totally scorchin! He's tall, handsome as hell and charismatic... And unlike other male leads who are described to be "players", Mack mostly keeps to himself, just manages the ranch well and doesn't indulge himself on every piece of ass that throws itself in his way... And it's refreshing to read about a guy who fell head over heels inlove from the outset, who up and married a practical stranger but knew right away that she's the one... He knows what he wants and is not afraid to take risks... He waited 2years for Andie and hoped she'd find her way back to him. Seriously people! No hot-blooded male with smoldering good looks, waits 2years for a girl anymore! Hell! No guy probably even waits a week anymore---well, maybe 1% of the total male population but you get my point...πŸ˜‰

So I guess when people are meant to be, no matter how long the time apart is, no matter who they think they decided to be with, when fate steps in, fighting it is futile...

I loved how Mack never gave up hope in finding her back and winning her over...its just so sad that there aren't any men with the likes of Mack out there in the real world... 😞

I just wished the epilogue on the book was made the last chapter, and another epilogue was written about them compromising on things, given the fact that they lived in different worlds...and also I would've wanted to read about them raising a family...

Anyway...πŸ‘πŸ‘Two-thumbs up for Elle Casey!!Yey! πŸ˜‰
